Learn How to Draw a Book

STEP 1: DRAW A RECTANGLE

Draw a rectangle at a slight angle.

STEP 2: ADD TWO ARCHES

add two curved lines (almost like parentheses) under the bottom line of the rectangle.

STEP 3: SKETCH A LINE

Add another line under the arches, creating an almost rectangular shape.
Add another line under the arches, creating an almost rectangular shape.

STEP 4: COMPLETE THE SPINE

Next, create the spine of the book by adding another arch and connecting it to a line that is parallel to the long side of the rectangle you drew. This line will also curve and continue into an adjacent line.

STEP 5: ADD DETAIL

Afterward, draw some detail on the spine and pages of the book.

STEP 6: GO OVER THE DRAWING WITH INK

How to draw a book cover

Step 1: Draw a horseshoe shape.

You will want this on an angle.

Step 2: Draw a slim rectangle for the spine

remembering the curves at the top.

Step 3: Draw another rectangle for the book cover.

Step 4: Add the details such as book title, spine detail, and pages.

How do draw a book standing up

Step 1: Draw a set of lines that will eventually be the book spines.

Make sure they are different heights for interest and that you will be sharing one line for the spines of two books.

Step 2: Add the small curved lines that will be on the top of the books.

Do the same for the bottom of each book.

Step 3: Add details for the spines of the books.

You can add shapes, lines, and even titles.

How to draw a book open

Drawing a book open looks a little more complicated but it is just as simple.

Step 1: Draw a line through the book’s center and two rectangles from it.

Step 2: Curve the top and bottom lines to give the impression of an open book.

To symbolize pages, draw a few little lines at the bottom of the pages.

Step 3: Make the front and back covers.

This is simply a huge rectangle placed behind the doodles you’ve already completed. To make it stand out, I prefer to darken the margins a little.

Step 4: Finish with a charming bookmark.

How to Draw a Book Stack

It’s just as simple to draw a book stack.

Step 1: Decide how many books

You want in your stack and draw an elongated U on its side starting at the bottom. Then repeat for as many books as you desire.

Step 2: To represent the pages

draw a little indented line at the top of each U.

Step 3: The spine and covers

three lines are required for the top book. The spine gets two from the U’s curvature, while the book cover gets one from the top. Draw the remaining spine lines after that.

Step 4: Draw the tops of these spines with a curved line and the tops of these spines with a straight line.

F.A.Q: How to draw a book?

Finally, it’s time to add ink to the drawing. So, gently trace over all of the pencil traces with your preferred pen. Then, after you’re certain that the ink has had enough time to dry, erase the graphite layer.

Congrats! You’ve mastered the art of book illustration. Scroll down to draw a stack of books to take this idea to the next level.
