The mines were very dangerous and stocked with various poisons. By the 19th century, it was common to have both men and women working in mines. It wasn’t uncommon to see whole families toiling away together in the mines; in fact, many of them lived there. The state of the economy was improving, and as a result, prices of consumer items fell. A rise in the number of available employment resulted in an improvement in overall productivity. As more and more useful tools and technologies were available, people in society became more determined and motivated.
The use of newly developed technologies improved people’s standard of living and made their day-to-day lives less difficult. A little over eighty percent of the world’s population resided in rural areas prior to the Industrial Revolution. Following the Industrial Revolution, a larger percentage of the population began to reside in metropolitan regions.
This process is known as urbanisation. In addition, the rise of the middle class occurred throughout this time period. Because they all had jobs and led lives that were on the same level, which was that of the middle class, there were more individuals who were classified as belonging to the middle class. As a result, these are the ways in which the Industrial Revolution was both a scourge and a godsend for the human race.
